Few events this year will have as great an impact on future world events as the US presidential election in November. A re-election of Donald Trump ("Trump reloaded") would have serious consequences - not only for the USA, but also for the global economy.
Alongside China, Europe in particular should expect massive pressure: Not only through trade policy (keyword: punitive tariffs), but above all through the threatened withdrawal of the US from NATO and other global regulatory systems.
Through a targeted "power grab", Trump also wants to bring the most important US authorities and institutions under his direct control - first and foremost the judiciary, but possibly also the US Federal Reserve. This would turn America into an autocracy - led by a furious demagogue with enormous power.
Accordingly, the FERI Cognitive Finance Institute warns in its analysis Trump reloaded: "The prospect of Donald Trump's re-election exacerbates the expectation of increasing unpredictability and unreliability of the US as a partner - both in economic relations and as a military protecting power".
