The numbers are alarming: Despite climate protection agreements, CO2 emissions continue to rise worldwide - after a brief, pandemic-related decline in 2020. Only a few countries are mainly responsible for this.
Together, ten countries emit two-thirds of harmful greenhouse gases. China tops the list with a share of around 33 percent. Together with the USA and India, the People's Republic is responsible for around half of global CO2 emissions. But Germany is also the only EU country to be found among the top 10 countries with an annual value of almost 2%.
